Set up your family

Add your kids, set the custody schedule, holidays and summer, and agree the expense split. It takes about five minutes.

iPhone appWeb app

The parent who starts on Clearly sets up the family. The co-parent who joins later uses the same setup and can change it afterwards.

On the web

After you create your account, Clearly asks whether your co-parent has already started.

  1. Choose No, I'm starting.
  2. Name your family if you like. Leave it empty and Clearly uses both parents' names.
  3. Start your free trial now, or choose Skip for now and set things up first.
  4. On Today, the Set up your family card lists the steps: - Add your kids - Set the custody schedule - Choose your holidays (or Not needed) - Set the summer schedule (or Not needed) - Agree the expense split - Invite your co-parent

Each step opens the right page under Shared in the sidebar.

In the iPhone app

  1. On Getting started, choose Start fresh.
  2. Your children: add each child's first name and birthdate. A family name is optional.
  3. Custody schedule: pick a pattern, say who starts, check the preview and set the exchange time.
  4. Summer: choose No, same all year or Yes, summer is different.
  5. Holiday schedule: pick the holidays you alternate.
  6. Shared expenses: set how you split costs for the kids.
  7. All set: check the summary, then continue to start your trial and invite your co-parent.

Change it later

Everything you set up can be changed. On the web, use Shared in the sidebar. On iPhone, use the Shared tab. Either parent can make changes.

Note: Setting up is free. Inviting your co-parent, posting and logging need a subscription. One covers you both. See What works without a subscription.
