Switching from OurFamilyWizard to Clearly.

Moving to a new co-parenting app shouldn't mean starting from nothing. Your calendar, your contacts and the record of what was said can all come with you.

This guide is for families moving from OurFamilyWizard, TalkingParents, AppClose, Cozi or 2houses. The steps are the same whichever app you're leaving.

Three steps, and none of them takes long.

Before you start.

Check your custody order. If your order names a specific app, keep using it until the order changes. Talk to your attorney first: switching usually needs your co-parent's agreement or the court's.

Download everything before you cancel. Get your message report and calendar out of your old app while your account is still active, so you aren't depending on access later.

Tell your co-parent. Clearly works when you're both in it. One subscription covers both parents, so your co-parent joins free.

What comes with you, step by step.

1. Download your records from your old app. In your old app, look for the reports or export option. Download your message report as a PDF, and your calendar as an .ics file (sometimes called iCal or a calendar export). Not every app offers every export, so take what yours offers. If you keep contacts for doctors, schools or caregivers, export them from your phone's contacts app as a .vcf contact file.

2. Bring them into Clearly on the web. Sign in at web.getclearly.app/import and open Switching to Clearly. Add your calendar from the .ics file: repeating events stay a single series, and events already in Clearly are skipped, so nothing doubles up. Add contacts from the .vcf file. Then upload the PDF message report. Clearly keeps it exactly as you uploaded it, in Records, labelled as imported. Both parents can see it, and so can any professional you give Records access.

3. Set up your kids and custody schedule. Under Family, add your kids and set your custody schedule, holidays and summer. It takes a few minutes. From then on, Clearly works out whose day it is for every day of the year.

What doesn't convert, and why.

Your old messages are not turned into Clearly messages. They come across as the report you downloaded, kept exactly as it was.

That's on purpose. Clearly's record is something you can rely on because Clearly saw every message as it was sent. It can only vouch for what happened in Clearly. Rebuilding years of messages from another app as if they'd been sent here would blur that line.

So the history stays whole and clearly labelled, and everything from here on is on Clearly's record.

Questions about switching.

Can I import my OurFamilyWizard messages into Clearly? You can bring the message report. Download it from OurFamilyWizard as a PDF and upload it in Clearly on the web. Clearly keeps it exactly as uploaded in Records, labelled as imported, where both parents and any professional with Records access can see it. The old messages aren't converted into Clearly messages, because Clearly can only vouch for what happened in Clearly.

Does Clearly connect directly to my old co-parenting app? No. Clearly works with the files you download: a PDF message report, an .ics calendar file and a .vcf contact file. You stay in control of what comes across.

Will my calendar events come across twice? No. Repeating events are kept as one series, and events already in Clearly are skipped.

Does my co-parent have to switch too? Clearly works when both parents use it. One subscription covers both parents, so your co-parent joins free. If your custody order names a specific app, keep using it until the order changes.

Can my lawyer or mediator see the imported report? Yes, if you give them Records access. Professionals use Clearly free.

Does Clearly work on Android? Yes, in the browser. Clearly on the web works on any computer or Android phone at web.getclearly.app. There's also an iPhone app.

What Clearly is.

Clearly is a co-parenting app for the schedule, the money and the conversations. Before you post, Clearly checks the tone and may suggest calmer wording. You choose what to send, and every post stays on the record as written. When you agree, Clearly writes up what you both agreed so you can each accept the same words.

Clearly is on the web and on the App Store, with a 14-day free trial. One subscription covers both parents.
